Govt to support hoteliers to adopt scientific waste management practices

The State Government will be providing technical support to hoteliers, restaurant owners and catering agencies to help them manage wastes thrown up by their businesses, in a scientific and sustainable manner.

This assurance was given by officials and experts during a seminar conducted by the State Suchitwa Mission on technical supports required for processing waste generated by hotels and restaurants.

Representatives of Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association, Federation of Hotel Associations and All Kerala Caterers Association interacted with experts from Suchitwa Mission, the Kerala State Pollution Control Board and technology firms working in the domain at the seminar held at Hotel Mascot here.

Inaugurating the Seminar, Shri U V Jose, Executive Director, Suchitwa Mission, said a more positive and meaningful approach was needed on the matter of waste management from the side of entrepreneurs in this domain.

As the representatives of a sector that generates a high volume of bulk waste, businesses in this domain have to take more effective and meaningful steps to ensure that the waste generated by them is processed scientifically by adhering to the theme “My Waste, My Responsibility” in letter and spirit, Shri Jose said.

He also pointed out that some unhealthy practices adopted by some agencies involved in the field of waste management and sought the help of the participants in preventing them from polluting public places as well as water bodies.

On the occasion, Shri Jose released a brochure featuring the available technologies and products relating to waste management. The inaugural session was presided over by Shri T M Muhammed Ja, Director, Suchitwa Mission. Smt Ganga R S, Director, Solid Waste Management, and experts from the Kerala State Pollution Control Board, Suchitwa Mission and representatives of various waste management technology providers participated in the seminar
